President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) Suma Chakrabarti announced on Monday that the bank is planning on “holding the upcoming edition of its Regional Investment Summit in Tunisia in November 2019 as an emergent pole of development and investment.”
“Co-operation with Tunisia is symbolic for the bank that supports the Tunisian democratic experience by baking its economic transition,” Chakrabarti, who was welcomed by President Bej Caid Essebsi at Carthage Palace, was quoted as saying in a Presidency of the Republic statement.
“EBRD will continue supporting the Tunisian economy by financing a set of development projects in inland regions and by strengthening the enterprises’ capacities, notably SMEs, so as to access African and European markets,” he added.
In turn, Caid Essebsi highlighted the importance attached by Tunisia to its co-operation with EBRD, calling for boosting co-operation and financing mobilised by the bank for the Tunisian economy by aiming at enhancing youths’ capacities in terms of investment, strengthening SMEs’ role in the economy and developing inland regions through projects in the infrastructure and renewable energies fields.
