Tunisia and the China Dongfeng Motor Corporation, on Friday, signed a co-operation agreement under which the Chinese automaker will set up a vehicle assembly plant in Tunisia, the Ministry of Industry and SMEs announced in a statement.

The agreement was signed by the CEO of Comet (an industrial company specialising in the design and construction of semi-trailers based in Ben Arous), Sami Idriss, and representative of the China Dongfeng Motor Corporation, Wulin Chen, in the presence of Minister of Industry and SMEs, Selim Feriani and ambassador of the People’s Republic of China, Yanhua Bian.

During the signing ceremony, the Minister emphasised the importance of the automotive component industries sector which is one of the promising sectors in Tunisia.

Feriani also called for strengthening Tunisian-Chinese co-operation particularly in this sector.

The Chinese diplomat, for her part, expressed her government’s commitment to boost bilateral co-operation and expand the areas of economic co-operation and investment.
