About six million dinars are daily granted to Tunisia in the form of donations to support public and private projects in all regions, in addition to €10 billion in financial support over five years, European Union (EU) Ambassador to Tunisia Patrice Bergamini said. This makes of Tunisia Europe’s first partner in the Southern Mediterranean region.
The European ambassador was speaking Thursday at a meeting with students of the European University of Tunis during which he ran a a panel discussion on Tunisia-EU relations, the University Friday said in a press release.
Several issues were tackled like cooperation actions with Tunisia, ongoing Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area (DCFTA) negotiations, Open Sky prospects, support for Tunisian olive oil exportation, facilitation of visa issuance and the extension of Erasmus programme.
Bergamini reminded of the importance of ties binding Tunisia and the European bloc and said “Tunisia’s success strengthens the EU and a possible failure would also be the Union’s.”
“Europe, Tunisia’s first economic partner, has always supported its economic, social and political development to underpin democratic transiton and preserve the Tunisian example,” the EU Ambassador further said.
