“The seawater desalination plant of Djerba will start, late April, the experimental or semi-industrial market phase. The effective start of the distribution of drinking water to citizens is planned for mid-May “, said Friday, Minister of Agriculture, Water Resources and Fisheries, Samir Taieb, on a visit to the governorate of Medenine.
Besides, the minister affirmed that this station will be a first in Tunisia, pending the stations of Zarat (Gabès), Sfax and Sousse, adding that it will allow to spend the summer season without problems of supply of drinking water and in better conditions than those of the last summers”.
CEO of the National Water Distribution Utility ( SONEDE) Mosbah Helali said the Djerba station will produce 50,000 cubic meters per day expandable to 75,000 cubic meters. It will cover the needs of Djerba and Zarzis and improve the hydraulic system in the southeast.
“The achievement work of the station ended, it remains only to set up the electronic mechanisms of management and regulation,” he said.
