The national production of olives is estimated to reach 400 thousand tons with the extraction of 280 thousand tons of olive oil in the 2017-2018 season, according to updated forecasts from the National Oil Board (ONH).

The data posted by the board on its website indicates that nearly 110 thousand tons of oil had been exported to European markets by the end of March 2018.

According to the same source, quantities exported in bulk provided 1,128 million dinars. They were oriented towards the European market (71%) 35, 759 tonnes of which to the Spanish market and 34,676 tonnes to the Italian, in spite of the international positioning of the latter in terms of olive oil production and their fierce competition to the Tunisian market.

As regards packaged olive oil, 7,422 tons (97.7 million dinars) were exported to France, which accounted for about 26%, Canada (28%) and Gulf countries (15%), said the ONH.
