The Tunisian Company of Electricity and Gas (French: STEG) recently signed an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract with Italian company Ansaldo Energia which provides for building a gas-powered combined-cycle thermoelectric plant with an installed capacity of 625 MW in Mornaguia, southwest Tunis, the leading international player in the power generation industry announced on Friday.

A Long Term Service Agreement (LTSA) for maintenance and assistance at the facilities was also inked. The contracts are worth about 700 MTD (240 million euros).

The thermoelectric plant will be equipped with two gas turbines (Model AE94.3A), generators and auxiliary systems made by the company’s Genoa factory. The 22-month works will start upon receipt of a work order.

This contract is the fruit of team work that involved the whole staff, Managing Director of Ansaldo Energia Giuseppe Zampini said.

Ansaldo Energia carried out several energy projects in Tunisia, including the Sousse C and Sousse D facilities in Sidi Abdel-Hamid and the Rades B facilities. It is also servicing Ghannouch facilities.

The company called the contract “a success.”

TAP could not reach STEG for details and comments.
