The organic date revenues during the current season edged up 45% in value compared to the previous season and 26% in quantities, according to an Agriculture, Water Resources and Fisheries Ministry press release on Thursday.

The quantities of organic dates exported since the beginning of the season (October 1, 2017 till May 30) reached about 7,638 tonnes worth 57,453 million Tunisian dinars (MD) against 6,048 tonnes (39,573 MD) during the same period last season.

This increase is due to the rising pace of export towards the United States (about 1,320 tonnes of organic dates till May 30 with a 29% rise compared to 2017).

Date exports towards the Dutch and the German markets also edged up 25% and 18%, respectively.

The Spanish market also recorded a 1,206% rise; some 208 tonnes of organic dates worth 243 thousand dinars were exported to Spain.
