Phosphate production in the second quarter of 2018 increased by ten thousand tonnes compared to the same period of 2017, said Hachem Hmidi, Secretary of State for the Minister of Energy, in charge of mines.
This production should reach 4.5 million tonnes, end of 2018, he said Saturday evening at the inauguration of the 28th edition of the textile festival in Ksar Hellal.
National phosphate production will double with the launch of three new public projects, said Hmidi.
Among these projects is of the Meknassi (Sidi Bouzid governorwate) which will start in a few weeks, with an estimated production capacity of 500,000 tonnes of phosphate, in a first step, he said.
Besides, they include the gigantic project of Sra Ouertane (El Kef governorate), with a production capacity of 4 to 5 million tonnes, and that of Tozeur-Nafta, with a capacity of 2.5 million tonnes.
Moreover, efforts are made daily to ensure, by 2019, the return of production at its 2011 pace, said the Secretary of State.
