Morocco reaffirmed, Friday in Nairobi, its firm will to actively participate in the initiatives launched by the African Telecommunications Union (ATU), a continental body to which the Kingdom has returned on Tuesday.
The ATU, the specialized agency of the African Union (AU) in the field of telecommunications / ICT, announced officially on Tuesday in Nairobi, the return of Morocco to it.
This step is a new stage in the implementation of the vision and the strategy developed by HM King Mohammed VI for the return of the Kingdom to the African Union and its various bodies, said technical director of the National Telecommunications Regulatory Agency (ANRT) Sidi Mohamed Drissi Melyani, who is leading the Moroccan delegation to the 5th ATU Plenipotentiary Conference, held in the Kenyan capital.
Morocco, which is convinced of the importance of inter-African cooperation in building a better future, will spare no effort to address, with other UAT member states, the challenges facing the development of the African continent’s digital ecosystem and to anticipate future technological, economic and social developments, he said.
In order to support the ATU’s functioning, Morocco will pay an annual financial contribution of 1.75 contributory unit, Melyani added.
