The exports of fishery products at the end of July 2018, reached about 146,305 tons, to 5,311 million dinars (MD) that is up 20.8% in quantity and 26.1% in value, compared to the same period in 2017.

According to data released Thursday by the Ministry of Agriculture, Water Resources and Fisheries, the increase in quantity is explained by the rise in crab exports which reached in the 1st seven months of 2018 , 1,717 tons to 11.1 MD, compared to 1.2 MD in 2017.

Similarly, the exports of aquaculture products tripled at the end of July 2018 compared to the same period in 2017, to 19,085 tons in quantity and 26.1MD in value.

In value, the cuttlefish exports edged up to 17.9 MD, due to the improvement of the export prices average (17.8 dinars/kg in 2017 against 9.28 dinars in 2018), an increase of 61%, according to the Ministry.

In addition, at the end of July 2018, imports of fishery products reached 26,621 tons for a value of 140 MD, up 38.7% in quantity and 37.2% in value.

This is due to the rise in frozen tuna imports (66% in quantity and 93.5% in value) in the first seven months of 2018 compared to the same period of 2017.

On the other hand, imports of canned tuna dropped by 2,771 tons, 89.4% in quantity and 5.83% in value (11.3 MD).

The trade balance at the end of July 2018, recorded a surplus of 171.5 MD, against 145 MD during the same period in 2017.
