French textile and clothing company operating under the brand name “KIABI” is planning to open a production unit in Tunisia to outsource its activities, said professionals who met Monday at the Export Promotion Centre (CEPEX).

With a turnover of €1.9 billion, “KIABI” is a company that operates particularly in East Asia and has 450 sales outlets spread across all countries of the world, CEPEX deputy CEO Samir Azzi told TAP.

He stressed the willingness of this French company, considered to be among the largest importers in the world, to expand its activities in Tunisia, as a strategic point of supply for importers.

These meetings were attended by 25 Tunisian companies active in the textile sector specialising in ready-to-wear clothing, seawear and jeans.

They aim to raise awareness of the Tunisian product in the textile and clothing industry to seek trade opportunities in European markets, but also to attract European and particularly French investors to carry out industrial projects in the field of textile in Tunisia”, said Azzi.

This initiative aims to help Tunisian companies gain access to new markets and boost exports, by encouraging KIABI to outsource some of its activities to Tunisia.

There are 670 textile and clothing companies in Tunisia. The sector has realised revenues of 6,300 MD in terms of exports in 2017.

In the same year, the government allocated a 4.5 MD budget to the sector to promote it.
